I think it should be possible.  Either in the ADLO bochs/bios/rombios.c or
in the filo etherboot-5.x/src/filo/drivers/ide_x.c (I think those paths are
right) code there is a comment about CD-ROMs being set up as slaves without
masters.  I'll look for it tomorrow if you haven't found it by then.
